It's been hard to break through this photo-block I've been having, and after a few days of thinking I was going to get out with my camera (and finding lots of reasons not to) I finally did it. I had hoped to go downtown and do some street shots, but ended up by the river just as the sun was going down. It was gorgeous and I had a great time shooting away. Sometimes it's hard to drag my butt out of the studio, but once I got out there, I couldn't figure out why it was so hard in the first place.

It helps that we've finally gotten to see the sun.

The soapbox derby on Saturday was fun, and within a short walking distance of our house, so that made it extra good.

The highlights of the event ended up having nothing to do with the derby. I ran into a guy who was a boyfriend 20 years ago (I really never thought I would see him again) and then stopped to ask a guy directions to the spectator area who said "um, are you from Iowa?" He was my next-door neighbor's boyfriend. Small, strange world.

The photos I shot ended up not so great, but I'll post a few anyway. Turns out, it's not easy to shoot things that are flying down a hill straight at you. Who knew?

These people were driving a dive bar car. It was such a good laugh to see them sitting at the bar drinking beer as they hurtled down the hill. The second time around, their front tire popped and it rolled to a stop right in front of us. Bummer!

This guy in the taqueria cart was actually handing out tacos as they sped by.
