There are a few new kitties at the shelter and I shot some photos of their beautifulishiousness. Also, a few shots of some of the old-timers, who are still waiting for their forever homes.
Last but never least, Queen Molly:
There's a new sweetheart at the shelter where I volunteer. I believe his name is Jasper. What a beauty.
And this is my boyfriend Gallagher. I know, he looks a lot like my kitty Raskal (only he's way fluffier and stronger. Shhh, don't tell Raskal). What can I say? He's a hunk, and look at those bedroom eyes:
So much sweetness:
I'm pretty sure this is June, playing with the cat toy that Zig made and donated to the shelter:
I had a success story very recently. I shot this photo of Schmitty:
...which ended up being used in the newspaper's Adopt Me column. Someone saw it and adopted him soon afterwards (!!) and later said it was the photo that really inspired him to make the call. I cried my eyes out when I heard that my pictures actually made a difference in the life of a homeless kitty. It came at the right time, too, as I have been wishing I had chosen a profession that helps people, and feeling like the work I do is frivolous and not useful in a world full of people and animals who are in a bad way. I hope to find new ways to make what I do meaningful and tangibly beneficial.
I shot some more photos of my babies at the shelter.
This is Schmitty, who rocks the cat world with his supreme taillessness.
And I'm pretty sure this is April. She has a sister named May who looks almost identical.
I don't know this darling's name, but dontcha just want to bury your face in his fluffy deliciousness?
Spencer's bent ear makes him look more crabby than he actually is.
Coming soon: photos (and maybe video!) of the new 3-legged kitten Littlefoot. You will melt away into a puddle of pulsing loveygoo when you see her tiny face and 3-footed hopping sweetness. Promise.
I brought my fancy camera to the shelter this time and got a few good shots of the furry sweetnesses who are waiting for homes.
This is either Darby or Darcy, I forget:
And this little love is a blind kitty. What a sweet box she has!
This cutie prefers her cage:
Could Precious have a better name? I think not. He was recently shaved, so his fur is growing in funny:
This is Queen Molly, keeping her human subjects in line. She's often quite hissy, but I think I would be, too, if I was forced to share close quarters with so many others.
I've been volunteering at a no-kill, free-roaming (free-range??) cat shelter, which means I spend a couple hours a week cleaning litter boxes, mopping and giving kitty love (just like at home!). There are maybe 30 or so cats in what used to be someone's house, walking around, sleeping everywhere, looking out windows, licking, etc. All those things that cats do, basically. Some of the residents are kitties who would be hard to find homes for because of temperament, spraying (or other potty-related issues) or illness. So there's some lifers, but there are also some kitties who are so sweet and loving and waiting, waiting and waiting for their 'forever homes'.
This here is Tiny. He has crossed eyes, but the room was dark and I had to use my yucky flash and it made him blink every time, so you can't see how adorable he is when he looks at you. He's waiting for his forever home. Anyone?
I'm so bad at remembering their names. I talk to these guys every time and I can't pull their names out of my brain right now. Urrg.
The little sweetie on the left has an adorable habit of air-licking, even while she sleeps. She also likes to suck on that bed she's sleeping in. She's a love-and-a-half. And gorgeous over there on the right moved into the frame when s/he saw that I was taking pictures. Another beauty who needs loving humans.
Anyone interested in adopting from the shelter or making donations (there's a wish list and a sponsoring program, too!) can check out the shelter's web site here.
