a cool new gadget
Check out this new pop-up flash attachment that I just got. It's called a Lightscoop, invented by my photojournalism professor Ken Kobré.
If you have one of those cameras with a pop-up flash, it fits on like this:
It bounces the light and does a great job of diffusing and softening the light, and it's small and easy to use, so when I don't feel like sticking my big ol' flash on the hot shoe, this will be very handy. Here's some before and after shots I did the other night. This is Boyfren, about to be sucked into the black hole at the bottom of the frame, which is caused by the lens creating a shadow from the pop-up flash built into my Nikon D200:
And here is my sweet Boyfren, saved from the dreaded black hole and bathed in a soft, even light:
